It's hard not to recognise the global media focus on the significant health risks associated with inactivity. Two things are rising - (1) health costs and (2) news and awareness campaigns promoting exercise. Why? Because activity rates are falling - we're moving less everyday. Take a look at these interesting statistics...
The world has stopped moving
According to the global awareness website - designedtomove.org
In less than two generations, physical activity has dropped by 20% in the U.K. and 32% in the U.S. In China, the drop is 45% in less than one generation.
"Today's 10 year olds are the first generation expected to have a shorter life expectancy than their parents."
That's scary!

Declining fitness a serious heart risk
A new European study confirms what cardiologists have suspected: declining fitness over a decade doubles a person’s risks for heart attack and death.

High cholesterol
In a US study of high cholesterol sufferers who combined exercise with statin supplementation individuals who were both highly fit and taking statins had a 70pc reduced risk of death.
Simple solution for many
If you consider yourself relatively inactive then it is time to start moving. If you think you are active then consider your level of fitness and how best to try and objectively self-assess. Start your exercise slowly and it's a good idea to have a medical assessment before starting any new exercise plan. You could start by self-assessing your body mass index (BMI)
Don't allow excuses to creep in such as age factors or how busy our lives are and lack of time, etc. When we face the facts about the health risks by not moving then 'time' takes on a new perspective.
Remember, we're not suggesting vigorous training regimes so put aside any thoughts of olympic training sessions. Even a daily 30min walk can be optimal.
