Healthy Ageing Research Study - UCD Dublin

Monday, 27 August 2012
Simon Coghlan

ucdThe Study intends to compare two different health approaches for ageing adults.

One approach will be exercise + nutrition based and the other only nutritional (without exercise classes).

Health Assessments

All participants will undergo medical screening and receive high quality health assessments such as:

- muscle and bone health profile

- Lean mass and fat mass assessment

- Bone density - Dexa bone scan

Participants will be divided into one of two groups:

Exercise + nutrition group

This group will commit to 3 supervised sessions a week at UCD. Provisional days and timings are Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between 0845 - 0930. This group will also be required to take nutritional supplements as supplied.

Exercise routines will consist of the following:

- Active coordination based warm up

- Strength training

- Stretching for cool down - Pilates and Yoga exercises

The exercise routine will be based on the following principles; effective, simple and minimal equipment.

Nutrition only group

The nutrition only group may be better suited for those unable to commit to the regular exercise sessions held at UCD each week. No class attendance will be required.

The group will supplement a combination of natural products for the duration of the trial. It is stressed that this is NOT a clinical trial testing new drugs of any sort.

The study is aimed at male and female candidates in the 55-70 year old age group.

If you, or someone you might know, are interested in participating in what looks like a super opportunity then please get in touch with Domenico Crognale at UCD.
